Reclaimed NYC water tower wood Biscuit joints Finished product, after waxing

Reclaimed Wood Coffee Tables

untilidiy:

This was a project we tackled before closing on the new apartment. We used reclaimed NYC water tower wood from Build it Green Astoria to make a set of two nesting coffee tables.

Total wo/man power: A gracious friend helped us get the wood home in his car (and then fed us lunch!)  Then a couple of hours of washing and sanding, the actual construction, and another hour or so of sanding and waxing. We spent more time agonizing over construction methods and finishes than actual work if you add up the time.

Total cost: Under $100 including the wood, sandpaper, some shellac (not used after a test showed we didn’t like how it looked), paste wax, and plastic furniture sliders for the bottom of the legs.
